Game Of the Week

The Indiana Hoosiers and the Michigan Wolverines will most likely put up the best game this week, even topping the rivalry game between Syracuse and Georgetown. Which ended with Georgetown on top. The reason why I say this game will be a good one is they have the same record 25-5 and are in the same conference, the Big 10. Also, both teams have a starting line up like no other. For Indiana theirs consists of Kevin Ferrell, Victor Oladipo, and Cody Zeller. The Wolverines' line up is in my mind the best in the NCAA, it includes, Trey Burke, Tim Hardaway Jr., Glenn Robinson III, and Nik Stauskas.

I honestly think that since Indiana has no momentum after losing to the Buckeyes last week I think they will lose to the Wolverines. Mostly, because Trey Burke has been on fire lately and is averaging 19 points and 6.9 assists per game. Also every player I mentioned before for the wolverines has 10 or more points per game,and Glenn Robinson averages almost 6 rebounds per game. Even though Zeller creams that with over 8 per game and Victor Oladipo averages 6 as well. Christian Watford of the Hoosiers averages 6.4.

Big Ten

In my mind and many others, the Big Ten is the most difficult conference in the country.  There are many great players in the Big Ten, so I am narrowing it down to the top four candidates for the Big Ten Player of the Year.  I think the top four players in the Big Ten Conference are Victor Oladipo and Cody Zeller from Indiana, along with Trey Burke and Tim Hardaway Jr. from Michigan.  Oladipo averages 14.1 points per game to go along with 5.9 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game.  I like the way that Victor goes crashing the boards from the three point line and gets a tip-in.  When he misses, then other Indiana players crash the boards while Oladipo is running back and ready for defense.  Cody Zeller is a monster and crashes the boards.  This shows in both the points and rebounds categories in the scorebook.  He is averaging 16.3 points and 8.1 rebounds a game.  I like the way he uses his height to grab rebounds and uses his strength to put the ball back up.  He also has good cardiovascular endurance, so he can run up and down the court and stay in for longer periods of time.  Now, come the Michigan Wolverines, who are a very scary team to face against when they are confident.  Currently, Michigan is in a slump and hasn't been having much talk ever since losing to Indiana while being a number one seed.  Trey Burke of the Wolverines is an outstanding facilitator and scorer.  When he is stopped at the basket, he kicks it out to a shooter, resulting in points.  He is a reliable player in tight games when you need a shooter or a ball handler.  Trey Burke is averaging 18.8 points and 3.1 rebounds with 6.9 assists.  Tim Hardaway Jr. is an excellent deep range shooter. He is a player to watch.  His form is excellent and is fast.  He has 15.2 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game.  He will be a great player and I think he will make a great player in the NBA.  Hardaway Jr. will especially good in the Los Angeles Lakers head coach Mike D'antoni's style offense; not getting mad if his players take outside shots.  I think the most disappointing player in the Big Ten is Will Sheehey of the Indiana Hoosiers.  He is only averaging 9.9 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 1.3 assists per game.  When he becomes confident, he is a great player and Indiana has multiple offensive threats.  If he becomes more confient, I think Indiana will win more games and be more highly ranked.  By Ameen I.

Michigan State - Michigan: Battle for Michigan

The Michigan Wolverines are working their way back up after losing their number one spot and now they are 4. They have a road block though, the Michigan State Spartans the rivals of the Wolverines are ranked 8 and they want to move up too. I think that if the Wolverines can put up a win then they can capture the number one AP poll spot.

The Wolverines have been lead by the same people all season. Sadly for the Spartans their leaders are in their starting line up, and they average over 10 points a game. Trey Burke is their biggest participator with an average of 18.2 points and over 7 assists. On top of that Tim Hardaway Jr. is also a big threat averaging 16 points and a .484 field goal percentage. Then, you have to worry about Nik Stauskas and Glenn Robinson III. Stauskas averages 12.1 points playing center and forward while Robinson III has over an 11 point average and 5.5 rebounds per game.

On the Spartans side they have a great veteran leader with Keith Appling who has an average of 14.1 poimts and 4.1 assists. Also, they have 2 strong rebounders in Branden Dawson, and Adrien Payne. Payne averages 6.8 averages plus, he has an average of 9.5 points. While Dawson averages slightly over 10 points and only 6.5 rebounds per game.

Upset Again

  Last week, Michigan was number one and lost to number 3 Indiana in Indiana.  Today, I was expecting Michigan to play as hard as they were capable of, and steam roll unranked Wisconsin.  However, Wisconsin did upset Indiana earlier in the year.  Both Michigan and Indiana came to play Wisconsin, but lost to them at home.  Michigan lost this game in dramatic fashion; overtime.  This is what college basketball is all about.  This game was close with Wisconsin sticking in there.  The halftime score was 29-28 with Michigan on top.  This is proving that teams that are underrated can beat great teams.  Wisconsin has good defense, and now they will start getting more national spotlight.  If Wisconsin keeps doing this, they will surely be in the NCAA Tournament come March time.  Wisconsin came back, outscoring the Wolverines 32-31 in the second half.  At the end of regulation, the score was 60.  In overtime, however, it was all Wisconsin, outscoring the Wolverines 5-2.  Tim Hardaway Jr. had five fouls, which in college hoops means that player fouls out.  With 13 seconds left, Hardaway Jr. picked up his fifth foul, but the referees didn't send him to the bench.  After a missed free-throw, Hardaway Jr. ran down the court, and I think everyone watching was in disbelief that the referees didn't notice.  Trey Burke launched up a three that went in and out, and time expired.  This game could have gone either way.  Trey Burke had a total of 19 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2 steals.  Tim Hardaway Jr. helped Burke out with 18 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 assists.  Jared Berggren played great for Wisconsin.  He had 13 points, 8 rebounds, and 1 block.  Ryan Evans scored 11 points to go along with 2 blocks, 3 assists, and 9 rebounds.  Ben Brust had 14 points, 2 steals, 2 assists, and 2 rebounds.  Wisconsin is a team coming out of the shadows and could become a ranked team.

Wolverines Outlast Buckeyes

This was such a good game it made ESPN's Highlight of the Night and I agree with them. It was a hard fought battle to the end when it was back and fourth between the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Michigan Wolverines.

The Wolverines had two top performers to me and they both did an excellent job the players include the likes of Trey Burke and Tim Hardaway Jr. Burke had 16 points and 8 assists while Hardaway lead all scrorers with 23 points. Plus Timmy Jr. (Tim Hardaway Jr.) had 6 three pointers made and only took nine three point shots. On the Ohio side of the court Aaron Craft and Deshaun Thomas as Thomas had 17 points and Craft former NCAA Defensive Player of the Year had 3 steals 11 points and 7 rebounds. The final score of the game was Ohio State 74 and Michigan 76.

Wolverines vs. Illini

This game between the Illinois Fighting Illini and the Michigan Wolverines wasn't even a contest. The whole game was Michigan. The only lead that the Fighting Illini had was at the 15:30 second mark in the first half. They only had a 6-7 lead.

If it wasn't for the 4 players that were in double figures for the Wolverines this team wouldn't even be ranked and they are #2 in the nation. The players in double figures were Tim Hardaway Jr., Glenn Robinson III, Trey Burke, and Nik Stauskas. Stauskas had 14 points, Robinson had 12 points and 6 boards. Burke would have 19 points, 3 steals, and 5 assists. Hardaway would end with 12 points, 3 steals, and a block. Their offense does all the work and that is enough for them as they coast for a 74-60 win. On the Illinois side they Brandon Paul had 15 points and banged 3 three pointers. Plus Nnanna Eqwa had 10 boards leading all players.

Michigan vs. Minnesota: First Half (update will be Available at the end of the game.

Coming into this game Minnesota was ranked #9 in the nation and just ahead of them was Michigan at #5. At the half Michigan would lead 36-30. Michigan's Tim Hardaway Jr. had almost half of those points with 17. Also point Guard Trey Burke had 10 points and 2 of those points coming off a lay up on a fast break with only a little more than :40 seconds on the clock in the first half. The lay up came after a steal which was Burke's only steal of the half.On the other side of the court Minnesota is down 36-30 and they have been spreading the ball around quite a bit more than the Wolverines. As all of their players including the bench only one player doesn't have a point. On Michigan only 4 players have any points at all. Trevor Mbakwe has been doing a great job with only 4 points, but does have 4 blocks and 6 rebounds. All in the first half.

During the second half it would be a game of completely Michigan offense. Michigan would add 34 points to there first half score of 36 points. Although Tim Hardaway Jr. would only get 3 points in the second half after he had 17 in the first half. Trey Burke would end the game only 1 assist short of a double double. He had 18 points and he 9 assists. Trevor Mbakwe of the Golden Gophers would have a double double with 13 points and 10 rebounds.Austin Hollins was tied in scorering  with 21 points and Tim Hardaway also had 21 points. Hollins also had 6 rebounds and didn't miss a single free throw making all three. The final score would end with Michigan on top 83-75.
